How to make a request

If you are a registered user, go to users in the members section of the navigation bar, and log in using the username and password sent to you when you first registered. Otherwise proceed to the next point.
Step I Access the Data Set
  • To view the available data sets you can either click on the particular country on the countries section of the navigation bar and or click on Africover Data under the downloads section
  • A list of the available data sets shall appear
Step II View the data set metadata
  • Click on the "Available" metadata for the data set you want
  • The metadata shall appear
Step III Making your request
  • At the very bottom of the metadata, there are three links to the different request types
  • Click on the request type best suited to you
  • Read and agree to the user agreement
  • Fill in the registration / Usage form
  • Your request is registered
  • If you are registering for the first time, a username and password shall be sent to your email address. This is used for the user panel.
Step IV Request Processing, Status and Downloading
  • After you make a request, it is registered on the africover server and is associated with your registration.
  • All request are vetted and approvals or rejections sent.
  • You can check on the status of your request on the user panel by going to the request section in the user panel.
Step V The User Panel
  • You must be a registered user to use the user panel.
  • Registration occurs when you send your first request: In step III, the form you fill shall be the request form for first time users. On registration, your request is registered, and a username and password sent to your email address, for logging into the user panel
  • The User Panel is located in the member section of the navigation bar.
  • Once registered, all your further requests should be made directly from the user panel
  • Further requests from the user panel are made in a similar way as the first time, the only difference is that you start by logging into the user panel, then using the user panel navigation bar which is similar to the one for the main website.
  • The User Panel is also used for the registry which is where users are requested to place the results of application of the data sets they have aqcuired, as well as any changes they have made to the data sets.
  • The User Panel is where downloads are got.
Step VI Downloading
  • In order to download an approved data set, go to the request section of the user panel, and click on "download" that shall appear in the status section of the approved request.
