GeoVIS : on screen visual interpretation made easy

GeoVIS is property of the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations and as such is available for download only for UN Agencies, organisations dealing with FAO and National institutions.

GeoVIS features an extensive number of functionalist specifically designed to perform efficiently visual interpretation of remotely sensed images. The systems is based on on topological vector engine and provides simple image processing tools functional to the interpretation.

The main features of GeoVIS are:

  • Ergonomic environment for visual interpretation:

    - support for pure visual, mixed visual-automatic interpretation and pure automatic (in version 2)
    - magic wand tool for mixed interpretation
    - direct link with LCCS (drag and drop supported)
    - multiple windows with synchronized panning, zooming and feature drawing (in version 2)
    - image stretching and filtering
    - image compression with Radex technology

  • Fully topological but easy to use

    - fully topological
    - file output compliant with all topological software (like ESRI Arc Info)
    - topological copy and paste of features between layers
    - easy to use topological editing (split, merge, etc.)

  • Data base functionalities

- integration of field samples information (with visual and tabular info)
- joining of tables
- querying capabilities

Ergonomic environment for visual interpretation

GeoVIS is fully integrated with LCCS so that the assigning a class to an interpreted unit can be done simply with drag and drop.

In the freeware version of the software it is possible to use 2 vector layers at the same time; the professional version allows an unlimited numbers of layers.

GeoVIS: a free topological software

All the common vectorial editing operations are possible and made easy through user friendly intuitive procedures.

Ground truthing: field samples inside GeoVIS

Integration of field samples in the interpretation interface; the information is automatically stored in a related Access database and interrogation and querying is possible directly from GeoVIS.
